AUCKLAND AMATEUR CLUB.

The pnst season was one of the most successful in the club's history, according to the'Teport submitted at the annual meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. Mr. W. Morton presided over a good attendance of members.

The report stated that . the membership for the past season was well maintained. At the Auckland prpvincial. championship meeting lhe club again won the clubs' championship. The New Zealand championship meeting was held in Auckland, when A. J. Eliott ' won the 100 yds and 220 yds championships, recording 9 4-5s for his heat in the 100 yds and 21 2-5s (a Do-miiiion record) in the 220 yds. J. W. Savidan won the three miles championship in the fast time of 14.30 2-5.

The cycling representatives did not experience the best of luck in their races, but M. I*. Byrnes gained the honours in the one-mile cycling championship.

J. W. Savidan could not defend his Auckland and Dominion cross-country titles, as lie was competing at the tenth Olympiad. J. Nicholson won the A.A.A. and C.C. cross-country championship, and finished fourteenth in the New Zealand championships at Christchurch. Alt. Clark won a sealed handicap in connection with the road race from Onehunga to Auckland. J. Nicholson also won the Kohn Points Cup, while Don Eliott, younger brother of A. J., won the Victor Ludorum Cup for 1932.

Mr. T. E. Henry was appointed one of the selectors to choose the team for the Olympic Games, and it was largely due to his clear judgment and the unyielding position he took up, supported by his coselector, that the British Empire champion was sent to the Games at Los Angeles in company with A. J. Eliott, with whom he was associated on the memorable trip to the Empire Games in Canada in 1930. Allan Eliott had to compete at the Olympiad with the greatest lot of speedy sprinters ever seen at the Games; he did not win, but proved 'himself to be one of the world's best. In the short sprints he improved upon his best Dominion performance, but was beaten by super-men. J. W. Savidan likewise did not win, but he proved himself to be one of the world's four greatest distance men, and still best in the British Empire.
