DISPUTE SETTLED.

CREW OF CANOPUS. The dispute between the crew and the master of the Westport Coal Company's steamer Canopus was settled yesterday afternoon, but the vessel will be laid up at Auckland until next week. Having refused to take the vessel to sea until their grievance against the captain was settled, the crew of the Canopus were paid off on Wednesday and the vessel was taken to an anchorage in the stream yesterday afternoon. Both the Seamen's Union and the Merchant Service Guild intervened to bring the parties to an agreement, and when this was reached the men were ready to return to work. The Canopus will remain in the stream, however, until she is required to load another cargo of coal at Westport.
