GIVEN A MOTOR CAR.
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE PLEASED "MAKES THINGS EASIER." Through the generosity of Mr. Willian Brock Leyland, of Marine Parade, Heme Bay, the fleet of motor vehicles of the St. John Ambulance Association was to-day augmented by a fine sedan, fiveseater motor car. The donor of the car, who was one of the first jjiesidents of the Auckland Automobile Association, told Mr. S. E. Langstone, manager and chief transport officer of the association, that he had been interested in the work of the body, and particularly in the long trips undertaken. "He just came into the office one morning lately," added Mr. Langstone, "and asked me if we could do with a car. I thought that he wanted to sell us one, so I was most guarded in my reply. Then he told me he was going to give us a car, so I told him that we would accept it, whatever it was. "Our provincial operations have been steadily extending for some time past, and already reach from the North Cape down to a straight line drawn from Taumarunui to Gisborne. We have to keep in touch with that large district, and have found visiting difficult. The gift of the car, therefore, makes things easier in that direction. To say we are j grateful is, of course, merely obvious."
