WELCOME HOME.
DR. BAILEY HONOURED. A welcome home to Dr. E. E. Bailey, the New Zealand Rhodes scholar, who recently returned from Oxford, was tendered by the Auckland Catholic Students' Guild in the clubrooms of the Catholic Women's League. There was a large attendance. The Rev. Father Terry presided, and expressed the pleasure of those assembled at meeting Dr. Bailey after his studies abroad. Mr. George Foy, on behalf of the Students' Guild; the Rev. Bro. Egbert, director of the Sacred Heart College, and Mr. Cyril Snedden, president of the College Old Boys' Association, also welcomed Dr. Bailey. Bro. Egbert, who has himself just returned from overseas, took the opportunity to refer to the good work of the Marist Brothers' Order in many parts of the world.
Dr. Bailey, after acknowledging the warmth and sincerity of the reception accorded him, gave an address on his impressions of Oxford University, particularly commenting on the daily routine of the undergraduates. The vacations of the Rhodes scholars, he said, were spent in tours of Europe, and this was a most valuable experience irf cultural education. He spoke very highly of the influence wielded by the Marist Brothers as a teaching organisation. He was delighted to be back again in his native country, though he had learnt to love Oxford as much as any other place he had ever known.
During the ovcning a musical entertainment was given by Miss Rosier and Messrs. and Harris, Miss Kathleen O'Leary playing the accompaniments.
