POLLARD CUP FINAL,
Twelve points to five was the margin by which Manukau Hovers defeated College final of the Pollard Cup competition which was decided at the Showgrounds on Saturday. The Onehunga side's snccess was deserved, as last season they were runners-up for the trophy, which was won by Technical College Old Boys. Neither side was at full strength on Saturday, but the teams made a bustling ? a ™ e For the greater part of the first «? we re a lot more In the picture .Ti an , their opponents, but lack of finish saw »H their efforts go for nothing. Although ■Mannkau called the tune for a spell, no points resulted, and at the breather the score board was blank. Early in the second half, In which Manukau had the wind behind them, C. Stuart potted a neat angle goal. Then a penalty goal kicked by BernJJp Save the blacks a seven-point lead, which was swelled to twelve when Brimble shot clean through the blues' defence for * try, which Berridge converted. Although oeaten, Rifles launched a surprise attack near the end of the spell, and Vear picked up and went over. He converted his own try. * The Stuart brothers were the best of the Manukau backs, and both made several fine Openings. Brimble was lively all through, his try being a smart piece of work. Xoung, on the right wing, displayed dash. Speight and Rutherford were among the hardest working of the Mannkau forwards. The Rifles pack was ably led by Brown, and Donald battled hard in the second half. Among the backs there was none who was really outstanding.
