PRECAUTIONS AGAINST MORE 'QUAKES. steel' for strengthening. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") GISBORNE, this day. Good progress has already been made in restoring and strengthening the damaged walls of No. 3 ward of the Cook -Hospital, which suffered extensively during the earthquake. The Hospital Board took the view that this work was of extreme- urgency, and resolved to proceed with it without the delay of calling tenders. In regard to the remainder of the institution, expert opinion is to be obtained by the Health Department, with a view to taking precautions against damage in any future earthquakes. Following the receipt of a report from the Department's technical adviser, Mr. C. S. Allen, of Wellington, the board dccided, at a special meeting, to have all the wards reinforced with steel, and advice has now been received that the Public Works Department officials arc leaving Wellington to-day to report upon requirements.
