TABLE TENNIS
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. .'UNITY CLUB SUCCESSES. ; The Auckland Table Tennis Association held its annual championship at Tayler Eastbury's Golf School this week, when approximately 50 players took part in the competitions. A large number or spectators witnessed the games, which nt times reached an' exceptionally high standard, and with five tables available this year's tournament undoubtedly proved to be the most successful yet held by the association. The open championship was won by Frank Paton, of.the Unity Club, this being the, fifth occasion on which he has won the title, whilst the ladles' championship was won by Miss Cochrane, also of the Unity Club. The B grade men's championship was won by C. Bourke, of the Post and Tele--graph Club, who gave a very sound display In all his matches. Nearly nil the games were evenly contested, probably the most spectacular being the Roblns-Storry and the Paton-Storry matches, both of which went to three games. Bockett proved to be in fine form, and, whilst ho never looked like beating Paton. beat three formidable opponents in J. Herbert, J. Harrison and M. Withers. Amongst the juniors, the most promising, besides Bourke, who appears to be a coming champion, were Mcßae, Walker and Hooper. The surprise of the evening was the defeat of Miss R. Taylor by Miss Kniveton in two straight games. Whilst Miss Kniveton played very well iudeed. It was obvious that Miss Taylor was far below her usual form, owing undoubtedly to lack of practice. Miss Cochrane played very well and thoroughly deserved her success. Detailed results are:— OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. First Hound.— J. Storry beat I/. Robins, 21—19, 19—21, 24—22 : W. Vaughn beat J.
