PROWLER SURPRISED.
ATTEMPT TO ENTER HOUSE. WOMAN GIVES ALARM. YOUNG MAN IN SANDSHOES. ' Hearing the windows of her bedroom rattling, a -woman residing in Woodside Road, Mount Eden, 'awoke at 4.30 this morning to iind that a man was trying to lift the bottom sash. She switched on tie light and at the same time gave the.alarm to otheis in the house, whereupon the .prowler jumped to the garden below, dashed across the flower beds, and ran swiftly along the street and escaped. He was a lightly-built young man of medium height and wore a dark suit and sandshoes. The windows of the bedroom which lie had endeavoured to lift to gain entrance are always left open about 4 inches. They are pegged and 'bolted to allow fresh air to enter, but cannot be lifted any higher. It was the noise made by the intruder which caused the sleeping woman to awake. Woodside Road has for some time past been the hunting ground of thieves and prowlers. Recently iattempts have been made to enter houses in this road, where there are many trees and shrubs.
