Although most oysters consumed in Taranaki have come from the South, the new freight rates and cutting of the time taken to dispatch should alter , the market so that Auckland oysters almost wholly supply Taranaki's needs. An instance of the effect of the present freight through the long Marton route is furnished by the fact that a sack of mussels costs 7/6 to buy at .Thames, and freight costs another 9/8.
