ORIGIN OF KARANGAHAPE.

(By Joyce Greenlialgh, 10, Leamington Road, Mount Eden; age 15.) What we know as one of the busiest streets in Auckland city was many years ago just a track, made by the Maoris using it constantly. Like most tracks, it had many twists and turns. It was, therefore, given the uame of Karangahape, which means crooked. Although many years have passed, Karangahape Road still retains almost its original route, one of the biggest turnings being at the top of Pitt Street.
