With the wind behind Grafton opened out vigorously, but faulty handling by the backs lost many scoring chances. Finlayson hurt his shoulder early in the game and thereafter was unable to put his weight in the scrum. Play throughout was of a ragged nature, neither side combining well enough to finish off scoring movements. Towards the end of the first spell Pearce took a mark and kicked a goal. Early in the second half Rifles set up a persistent attack. Tlieir backs started the first clean passing bout in the match, and Vear scored with the assistance of Brown and Albrecht. The centre took the kick and goaled. This was the end of Grafton's hopes of victory and Stewart clinched the issue by diving over for another try as Paton grabbed his feet. The kick at goal missed. A few minutes later Stan. Kirk got over via the blind side, and Albrecht negotiated the final try, which was goaled by Stone. The final scores were :— College Rifles 19 Grafton 0
