FRANKLIN MOTORISTS.

INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP,

GREAT SOUTH ROAD PAVING.

There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Franklin agency of the Auckland Automobile Association, Mr. R. C. Clark presiding. The agent's report recorded an increase in the -membership from 829 to 859, of which 84 per cent were financial. The patrol, stationed at Pukekohe, had. clone extensive work, and was giving appreciated service to motorists generally. The following were appointed an agency committee:—Messrs. R. C. Clark (Paerata), A. J. Maiden (Tuakau), H. Knight (Mauku), H. Curd (Pukekohe), C. Bennett (Puni), A. H. Tapper (Tuakau), J. Fulton (Whangarata), A. B. Ghezzi (Otaua), I. G. Wymer, jun. (Glenbrook), L. C. Logan (Pukekawa), L. W. .Keals (Onewhero), and G. T. Proude (Bombay). The president of the A.A.A. (Mr. A. Grayson), the secretary (Mr. G. W. Hutchison), the motorists' representative on the Main Highways Board (Mr. M. H. Wynyard) and members of the council of the A.A.A. gave interesting addresses on the activities of their respective organisations. Speaking in connection with the Franklin County portion of the Great South Road, Mr. Wynyard said that some time elapsed before the board and the county council reached an agreement over the reconstruction and permanent paving of the road. This tmfortunate delay meant that a vote to do the work had been missed. Had arrangements been finalised earlier it was quite a possibility that the concreting of the road from Papakura to the Pukekohe turn off would have been an accomplished fact by now. At the present time there was a stringency of funds, and unless the board obtained sufficient money in a short time it was hard to say when the work would be commenced. He hoped that when funds were available the road would be placed on the urgent list.
