CHILDREN AT PLAY.

FOUR PONSONBY SCHOOLS. UNITED CHURCHES' SPORTS. Between 700 and 1000 children, drawn from the four large primary schools— Richmond Road, Curran Street, Ponsonby and Bayfield —of the Ponsonby district, took part in a combined churches' sports meeting at Point Erin Park this afternoon. The meeting was organised by the headmasters of the four schools and the ministers of the various churches in the district, the denominations represented being the Salvation Army, St. John's Methodist, All Saints' Anglican, St. Stephen's Presbyterian, the Church of Christ and the Ponsonby Baptist. "This function is unique in the history of the Ponsonby district," said the Rev. P. B. Barton, minister of St. Stephen's Church, who was appointed to organise the function. He said it was a move by the associated churches to bring brightness into the lives of children. at the four schools, at which 2000 attended. The sports programme, including football and cricket, for the bigger children, was conducted in the park, but the infants were taken down to the beach, where the teachers organised games for them.
