STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

TRAINER RECOVERED. The southern trainer C. Gieseler, who has been seriously ill in Dunedin, has been discharged from hospital. Gieseler acts as private trainer to Mr. J. M. Samson, who owns a large string of racehorses, including Admiral Drake, winner of the last Auckland Cup. ADDITION TO TEAM. The local trainer A. Conway has added to his team the Tea Tray mare Norva.l Tea, who is now five years old. This mare has not raced since she was a three-year-old, at which age she won a five-furlong event at Whangarei. She has plenty of speed, but when raced previously lacked stamina. TO RESUME WORK AGAIN. Echo Song, who displayed speed in several of her races last season, is being hacked around the roads and will resume work again at headquarters during the next few days under A. Conway's charge. Although Echo Song failed in her half dozen starts last season she is a likely improver before the present season is over. AN IMPROVED DISPLAY. When schooled over two hurdles at Ellerslie yesterday morning Royal Survey gave a first-class display, jumping with plenty of confidence for a novice. He negotiated his fences quickly and cleanly and got away from each hurdle more quickly than on previous occasions. Taken all round, his .effort was decidedly encouraging and he should have a good future ahead of him when he begins his hurdle racing campaign. BACK AT ELLERSLIE. The most recent additions to the active workers at Ellerslie are Llanore and Tahae Mea, who have been turned out since the autumn. Last season Llanore contested a dozen races, and although she accomplished some brilliant track gallops she failed to win a race with the colours up. Tahae Mea. who was only saddled up once, is a solid type of hack, and when he has had more experience should develop into a useful performer. AN ENCOURAGING EFFORT. Since racing at the I'akuranga meeting Landlubber has not been asked to do any strenuous tasks, but lie is thriving well 011 the work allotted him. His effort in finishing second to Princes Bede in the Auckland Handicap was decidedly encouraging for a horse making his first appearance in public. If Landlubber makes the improvement expected of him during next month he should not take long to lose his maiden status.

HUNT CUP CANDIDATE. Commentator is due to contest the Manawatu Hunt Cup to-morrow and with a stand up he will be very hard to beat. He is a fine type of hunter, and by the time the next jumping season arrives is likely to be competing in much better company. The local cross-country rider D. J. Burgess has been engaged to ride Commentator ■in his race to-morrow, and this .will ensure him being capably handled. MAKING GOOD PROGRESS. During the past month Puriri Park lias made excellent progress, and although he has had no fast work he is steadily rounding up into shape. F. Gilchrist does not intend to hurry the Treclare gelding until the ground becomcs firm, therefore he is not likely to do any racing until the Avondale and Auckland meetings, which are still over six weeks away. Puriri Park is now in his fifth year, and when he gets back to proper racing condition again should be better than ever.
