FEDERAL CABINET DECISION.

(Received 11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, thb day. The Federal Attorney-General, -Sir. J. G. Latham, announced in the House of Representatives that the Government has decided to appoint Mr. Justice Owen, who recently retired from the New South Wales Supreme Court Bench, to be a Royal Commissioner to inquire into and make recommendations upon the question of performing rights in copyright works broadcast in Australia.

This appointment comes as a result of protests against the fees demanded by the Australian Performing Rights Association, which claims the copyright to nui.ierous works used by the radio systems. A and B station; paid £45,000 last year to the association for these right*;.
