THAMES FINANCES.
'WB HAVE WRITTEN HISTORY' COMMENT BY THE MAYOR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Monday. When replying to the toast of local bodies at a social function the Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor, said that because of its financial problems the Thames Borough Council certainly had a very hard row to hoe, but the trouble was they had no tools to hoe with. All the members of the council were doing their best in the interests of the majority and the community as a whole. They considered it best to keep as many men in employment as possible, and in the matter of curtailment of expenditure they felt they had done all they could reasonably be asked to do.
The Mayor added that the position recently had been clarified to some extent, but it was difficult to say what was going to happen. "We have written history," said Mr. Ensor, "but the circumstances were beyond our control. Thames has been decried far and wide, even by people in our own town. However, we are all hoping for the best, though we cannot say just what the, future holds." ]
