ACCOUNTANT'S ARREST.

ALLEGED THEFT OF £735.

COMPANY IN LIQUIDATION.

SUPPRESSION OF NAME REFUSED.

WELLINGTON, this day

Arrested yesterday, Archibald Walter McColl, aged 47, accountant, was charged in the Magistrate's Court today, before Mr. E. Page, S.M. with stealing money amounting to £735, tlio property of New Zealand Roads, Ltd.. in liquidation, No. 2 account. A remand was granted till Wednesday.

It was stated the amount involved would be about fIIJOO and that tlw police would be ready to proceed witii the case on Wednesday. Bail was allowed without opposition.

Application was made for suppression on the plea that McColl had been negotiating a business settlement on behalf ')f his wife, and if the narno was published the settlement would be seriously prejudiced, mid the other party concerned would be in a position to dictate. His wife was not a business woman, and the amount involved in the settlement was £2000.

The magistrate said he was not pro pared to make an order.
