INTENSIVE SEARCH.
Fear of Murder By Tribesmen in Northern Australia.
HYDROPLANE FOUND.
(United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright)
PERTH, June 15. An intensive air search by Pilot Sutcliffc, of the West Australian Airways, to-day resulted in the discovery of Hans Bertram's hydroplane practically undamaged on a tiny island, SO miles north-north-west of Wyndham, and 100 miles from the Drysdale Mission. Native runners from the mission assert that Bertram and his companion, Glausmann, apparently were murdered by hostile tribesmen and their effects stolen and distributed. This would account for the discovery of the cigarette case and handkerchief. The runners say it is impossible to live among the tribes on either Eric or Ellis Islands, which are close together. The hydroplane was located on Eric Island. One wing was propped up. Apparently the crew came ashore and met the fate which the natives eay was inevitable. However, the search is being continued. The reported discovery of the hydroplane with a message attached to it was premature.
