AUCKLAND FRENCH CLUB.
An interesting programme, arranged by Mrs. W. Calderwood and Mr. J. M. Bertram, was presented last evening to the members and friends of the French Club, in the League of Penwomen's rooms. The chairman, Mr. P. S. Ardern, welcomed the guests. Auckland University students sponsored the greater part of the evening's programme, which included two one-act plays, and same excellent musical numbers. A comedy, in one act, entitled "Les Coteaux de Medoe," which depicted a telephone conversation between two people in adjoining flats, was read by Miss Peggy Cherry, Mr. J. M. Bertram, and Mr. Eric Hasiam. The second play, entitled "La Kente Viagere," was" the •story of a cunning old man who, because of his frail condition and age, plays on his lawyer's speculative instincts for the purchase of his house. The players were: Messrs. P. S. Ardern, Evan Harrowell, P. W. Robertson, and Sagar. M. Edouard Joubert, the president and Consul for France in Auckland, gave a brief talk. Miss Lovelace Milne, as vocal soloist, Messrs. Eiji Kurosawa, and Ronald Muston, in musical items, delivered numbers which were greatly appreciated. A dainty supper brought an enjoyable entertainment to a-dose.
