WOMAN SENT TO GAOL. PREVIOUS CONVICTIONS. "Yes, sir, I did it after I left the Court yesterday morning," said Edith Doris Bartlett, 37 and garrulous, to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., at the Police Court this morning, when she was charged with stealing three magazines, valued at eightpence, belonging to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. _ "_ Detective Sergeant Kelly eaul the woman, after leaving the Court yesterday,, when she appeared on a summons charge, went to a shop in Victoria Street and stole the magazines. When detected by an assistant she bolted. She had been previously suspected of theft from the same shop. She had six previous con-
victions. • . ■ Mr. Hunt: She was under the influence of liquor in Court yesterday. Mrs. Bartlett became very talkative until silenced by the magistrate, who sentenced her to 14 days' imprisonment. "She wants a lesson. It will probably straighten her up a bit now."
