RATIONS REFUSED.
COMPLAINT BY MRS. McCOMBS
CARDS RECEIVED BY 25,000 MEN,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
CHRISTCHURCH, this day
Applications of 25,000 men for ration relief have been refused by the Unemployment Board, according to a statement made by ]krs. E. R. McCombs. "I notice," said Mrs. McCombs, "that the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, in opening the Hospital Boards Conference, said 'the steps being taken by the Unemployment Board to relieve hospital boards of the greater part of their past burden of unemployment relief would make the Department's and the boards' problem so much less embarrassing.' "Now, however, the scheme has been launched, and 25,000 men have received A printed notice through the post. The cards were printed by the Government printer last month, and they read as follows: 'Your application for ration relief has received very careful consideration, but it is regretted that it has not been possible to grant same.'"
