PAYMENT OF ACCOUNTS.
WHANGAREI COUNTY DECISION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. Contractors and others who have accounts owing by the Whangarei County Council must in future submit them in time to be considered by the finance committee, before payment. No accounts, unless on the authority of riding members, will be paid between meetings of the council. Presenting the financial statement yesterday, the clerk, Mr. H. C. Hemphill, said that £700 had been paid out between the last meeting and yesterday's meeting.
The opinion that this was an unbusinesslike method was expressed by members. In eases of hardship, it was decided, the riding member could easily authorise payment of an account.
