Horton has been re-elected unopposed to the Auckland University Council as representative of members of tho General Assembly resident in the Auckland provincial dietrict. Mr. C. F. Warren, general manager... in Australia and New Zealand for the Prudential Assurance Company, arrived by motor car last night from New Plymouth. He is at the Grand Hotel. Mr. L. ' Thorborensen, of the Malay States, who has spent three weeks in Auckland sightseeing, left by service cav this morning for the South. He will leave Wellington en route for home in three weeks' time.
Captain W. S. Hodgson, late commander of the White Star liner lonic, who retired early in the year from the company's service, has decided to make New Zealand his home. He will reside in the Taranaki district. Mr. W. J. Hampton Reynolds, late of the literary etaff of the "Auckland Star, -, who lias received a • transfer to the literary staff of the "Christchurch Star," left with Mrs. Reynolds by the Eotorua express this morning en route for tie South. • ' Mr. Walter Newton, secretary of the Labour Department since March, 1930, has retired on superannuation, states a Press Association message. The Department is now under the control of the Commissioner 01 Unemployment, Mr. G. C. Godfrey. Mr. Clifford Ball, the English carillon player, who recently arrived in New Zealand to play the Wellington Memorial Carillon, arrived in Auckland from Rotorua late yesterday afternoon. Ho will Joave for Sydney, en route for England, iy the Aorangi on Monday. Captain J. E. Roques, of Paris, French flying "ace," arrived in Auckland early yesterday afternoon, and is at the Grand Hotel. Hβ was tendered a luncheon there by the French Consul,. M. Edouard Joubert. Among the guests present were: General Sir George Richardson, Mr. Spencer-Mason, president of the Auckland Aero Club, Squadron-Leader Isitt, Major Seawood, of the Auckland Territorials. Captain Roquet, who expressed his admiration of the natural beauties of the Dominion, will leave Auckland by the Aorangi on Monday en route for home.
