CIVIC LEAGUE.
The meeting of the Civic League yeeterday combined business with pleasure and afterwards became a farewell social to the energetic secretary, Mrs. C. Wolstencroft, who is about to leave for England. A presentation was mnde of a handsome travelling rug by the president, Mrs. Kenneth Gordon, on behalf of the members. The business dealt with was a letter from the Metropolitan Employment Board asking if the members would assist the men in camps with books, materia] for games, tobacco and cigarettes. After discussion it was decided to comply with the request. The matter of Courthouse Lane being a oneway clown traffic route, while Williams Street, which was parallel, was not a one-way traffic up-route, was considered, and a letter was sent to the City Council pointing out that the latter street should be a one-way up rovite. In the matter of telephone boxes having shelves placed in them to put parcels on, to prevent them being placed on the floor, the Post and Telegraph Department wrote advising that the matter would have to be carefully considered, and a definite reply would be forwarded later.
