REDUCTION IN CHARGES. CITY COUNCIL DECISION. Slaughtering charges at the Municipal abattoirs were reduced at last night's meeting of the City Council. The manager reported that the Abattoir Assistants' Union had abandoned its claim for a new award, and, the balancesheet for the year ended March 31 last being available, it was possible to review the fees and charges, with a view to revision.

The abattoir accounts, with one exception (abattoir fees), showed a profit for tho year, the most substantial being the slaughtering account. This received tho benefit of the 10 per cent reduction in wages. Tho subsidiary accounts were in the main fixed or power charges, and were not affected to any extent. The manager reommended: That the charge for weighing and delivery of fat be discontinued., the scale of charges being as follows—Cattle, 2d per head; pigs, Id |>r head; sheep and lambs, id per head; that a discount of 5 per cent be granted on tho slaughtering charge to cash and credit accounts; that a discount of "> per cent on the slaughtering charge be granted on monthly accounts if paid on or before the 20th of the following mouth. Those recommendations, if adopted, said the manager, would return to clients approximately the 10 per cent reduction in abattoir wages. Abattoir f.ces were reduced by £3000 during 102-}, equal to 29.25 per cent of the fees for the past year. Chilling charges were reduced last year by .C3OO, or !).3."> per cent of the chilling charges, and tho proposed remissions reduced tho slaughtering charges (including fat collection) £107S, or 5.19 per cent, a total reduction of £.">798 per year, or 14.04 per cent of revenue.
