WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES.

GOING NICELY. That good colt Kewpie's Triumph is looking and moving well in his work and lie should be ready to play his part when the field goes out for the Adams Cup this month. Yesterday he worked nearly two miles, having Realty as a companion for over a mile. Kewpie's Triumph, then went on alone, and though he was inclined to loaf he soon put plenty of effort into his task when he got a touch with the whip. He is a rare stayer, and though now on a mark he will (ind it difficult to win from ho will always have to be considered. JUST A HACK. Gold Jacket, winner of two Auckland Trotting Cups, is being hacked about by L. MeMahon, who uses the son of Gold Bell as a riding hack. There are so few races for first-class horses nowadays that it does not warrant keeping them in training. However, if Gold. Jacket is idle, his stablemate, Gold Seam, is getting plenty of work and he is one of the fittest horses at Epsom. So far he has disappointed in his races, but this has been mainly because of a bad beginning. He is now getting more solid and may bo capable of showing greatly improved form next time he races. LUCKY ESCAPE. J. Herring had a lucky -escape when a. maiden pacer he was driving yesterday morning fell. Six horses —Moko Girl, La Triumph, Key cle Quest, Manna's Son, Carl Mack and Herring's maiden—set out to go a mile and a half. Over the first round the horses were fairly well bunched, but as they turned to go out of the straight to commence the last lap Herring's maiden tangled and fell. Kortunately the pacer was on the inside of the track and the others avoided a collision. La Triumph won the work-out from Carl Mack, who broke badly with seven furlongs to go, but afterwards trotted in great style. Moko Girl trotted solidly and was not driven [ out. Manna's Son, the two-year-old in S. Groat's team, gave a fine exhibition, but did not finish on no well as the others. Key do Quest paced disappointingly. A GOOD WORK-OUT. The cinder track was the only one used for other than jogging work at Epsom yesterday. The going was loose on top, and consequently the times recorded were too .slow to be worth taking a note of. Most of the horses were allowed to stride along at half-pace, finishing up with a sprint down the straight. An interesting workout was witnessed when Warspite, Prince Etawah, Kewpie's Guy, Jester and Carnui gathered to go a mile and a half. At the, jump away Warspite and Prince Etawah left a couple of lengths ahead of Kewpie's Guy and Jester, with Carnui standing the leaders up about forty yards. Realty pulled 6ufc after going a mile, and Waxspito led nil the way and was first into the straight from Kewpie's Guy, with Prince Etawah handy and Carnui putting in a fast run. A. Julian kept Warspito at it and he beat Kewpie's Guy nicely by just over a length, with Ca-rnui about half a length away. Prince Etawah tired a little in the run home, but he was racing better class horses than himself and did rather well. Carnui <lid not make hie run till too late to get Warspite. The latter paced smoothly and displayed more dash th'an usual.
