THEFT OF TOOLS.
RELIEF WORKER GAOLED, "NOTHING IN HIS FAVOUR." Percy Malcolm Ernest Growden, aged 20, a labourer, appeared at the. Police Court this morning and pleaded guilty to three charges of stealing tools of the total value of £18 19/0, at Henderson, on May 10 and June 3 and 7. Detective Sergeant Kelly said inquiries were made by Constable Rusliton. Crowden denied stealing the tools. The constable executed a search warrant and found all the tools, with the exception of an axe and two tools. Growden was a married man with a wife and two children, and was on relief work. He had two previous convictions for theft and was placed on probation in 1929.
Asked by .the magistrate if lie could say anything in favour of accused, Constable Rusliton said he was sorry he could not.
Growdcn was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on one cliarge.
