CHIEF RETIRES.
TELEGRAPH ENGINEER. MR. A. GIBBS EAREWELLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. It was announced to-day that Mr. A. Gibbs, chief telegraph engineer of the P. and T. Department, has decided to retire, having completed over .forty years' service. Ho was farewelled this afternoon at a function at the G.P.O. at which wore present the Hon. A. Hamilton, Postmaster-General, and a number of senior officers of the Department. Mr. C. S. Plank, deputy-chief engineer, succeeds Mr. Gibbs as chief.
Mr. Gibbs was born in Drmedin in 187" and attended the Dunedin public and technical schools as well as the Otago University. Since 190 Che has been engaged in various positions in the engineering branch of the P. and T. Department, including district telegraph engineer in Otago and Auckland.
