IN SEARCH OF AN ORIGIN.
An inquirer has asked if anyone can tell liini the origin of the term "0.K." The following answer may be of interest to him: Years ago the Colorado beetle »vais causing much havoc fo the potato crops in America, nncl it was necessary to examine goods leaving tlin ports to see that, the bug was not a stowaway. On one occasion this job was given to an Irishman, and on each case when satisfied that the pest was not contained therein lie chalked the letters ''O.K."' His employer, oil coming down to the wharf, naturally a.-ked what the letters stood for. to which l'at replied. ''Aria. sur. don't you see? '0' for 'all and 'K' for 'correct.'" [ do not vouch for this being the true origin, hut my informant assured me many years ago that it was right. ' ' ' H.E.M.
