"STARVATION DEBENTURE."
" Political Gangsters."
COUNTRY PARTY PROPAGANDA,
According to a number of Australian business men who are passing through by the Mariposa, the election in New South Wales will see the defeat of Mr. Lang. Mr. W. Cavill, of Sydney, eaid he had travelled through the State during the laet week of two, and from what he had seen and heard it appeared more than likely that Mr. Lang would lose his seat (Auburn) to Mr. Coleman. He said the elections were very quiet. Compared with elections in the past, the calmness of the people was remarkable. Mr, Cavill has in liie possession a United Country party leaflet. This is printed in the form of a "starvation debenture," and is a satire on the Lang plan to raise £21,000,000. The "debenture," which has been broadcast throughout the State, bears the Soviefe emblem of the sickle and hammer. The "debenture" sets out that "The State promises to repudiate to the bearer his promise to pay £21,000,000 (which ho has not got) on payment of the usual 5 per cent commission contracted outside the moratorium." On the reverse side is the statement: "He proceeded to repudiate his repudiation of repudiation by repudiating everything."
Under the heading, "Remember," electore are reminded of the 1/ in the £ wages tax; that one in every three are workless; that the deficit is £20,000,000; that £11,000,000 has been driven to Victoria; and concludes with,
'"Appropriate, repudiate, confiscate, hypo-thec-ate —the countrymen must shut the gate."
