OLYMPIC GAMES.

AUSTRALIA'S TEAM. <HAS WONDERFUL PROSPECTS' PASSING THROUC4H AUCKLAND. Representatives of the very best in amateur sport that Australia has to offer, the Australian representatives who are to compete at the Olympic Games at Los Angeles next month, are through passengers by the liner Mariposa, which arrived at Auckland from Sydney this morning. "Tho team lias wonderful prospects, and is far superior to anytiling that has yet repi-esented Australia," declared Mr. J. S. W. Eve, manager of the party. "If every member performs to form there should be none fail to get a place. Personally I expect Australia to win four championships, but I'm not mentioning any names." The party on the Mariposa consists of Mr. Eve, manager; Misses Frances Bult, P. M. Mealing, C. Dennis, swimmers; Miss E. Wearne. athlete; Messrs. A. M. Charlton, Noel Ryan, swimmers; G. A. Golding, A. J. Hillhouse, E. W. Barwick, athletes; Eddie Scarf, wrestler; E. L. Gray, cyclist; E. R. Terry and E. Gill, masseur coaches; and Mrs. M. Chambers, chaperon. R. H. Penrce, sculler, who will also represent Australia, is lit present in Canada. "We shall probably be the first team to arrive at Los Angeles and the last to leave," said Mr. Eve. "All members are in moderately good form now, and will be able to take full advantage of the opportunity for training on the boat and at Los Angeles before the Games begin. They're a great lot, keen, and of fine character, and we were given a wonderful send-oll' at Sydney. In picking the team, the Australian Olymoie I'ederation aimed at choosing only those who were right up to Olympic stand,, id. The team is being sent by funds raised solely by the federation. We did not seek money direct from the public or receive any assistance from the Government. We are very fortunate in having with us as masseur coaches Mr. Terry, who twice trained the South African Olympic team, and Mr. Gill. Mis. Chambers, who will act as chaperon to the girls, is popularly known in Sydney as the 'mother of swimming,' and her selection was probably the most popular choice of the lot." Mr. Eve was secretary of the Australian team that competed at Paris in 1924, and is a brother of the Commonwealth's former representative diver. He is secretary of the Australian Olympic Federation.
