BRANCH SHOP.
FARMERS' TRADING COMPANY PREMISES IN QUEEN STREET. Premises formerly occupied by Smeeton's, Ltd., grocers, in Wine tone Building. Queen Street, are being extensively altered, and when the alterations are completed the building will be opened as a branch of the Farmere' Trading Company, Ltd. The new shop will be conducted on similar lines to the main establishment of the company in Hobeon Street. A 20-year lease has been secured by the Farmers' Trading Company from the owners, Mesere. Winstone, Ltd., who are spending £5000 on alterations. A further .£3OOO is being spent by the leseee company on fitting* and lighting. The new branch, it is expected, will be opened to the public early in August. It is claimed that the store, when completed, will be one of the most modern of its type in New Zealand. An Australian expert has directed the installation of fittings and the latest lighting devices will be used. The ground floor will have a frontage of BSft to Queen Street, and a depth of 120 ft. It is stated that the prices in the store will be cut to the lowest possible. The company does not intend to carry general stocks and compete with ite Hobson Street establishment, and there will bo no delivery of goods from the new branch. A face of red Italian granite and a suspended verandah will give the promises a handsome appearance. There will be four show windows and three main entrances. Eighty hands have been engaged, including some, transferred from Hobson Street, and the manager will be Mr. K. Fraeer, of the Farmers' head office.
