SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Mother's Club, Y.W.C.A., held their meeting on Tuesday, ivhen Mrs. Edwards presided. The Rev. Fellowea was the speaker and his address on music was enjoyed and appreciated by all. Mr. Fellowes also played several pianoforte solos. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. A kitchen evening was given by the Swanson Spinsters' Committee in the Swanson Hall on Thursday in honour of Mis 3E. Taylor. The evening was spent iu dancing, games, etc. Items were rendered by Mrs. Corey, Misses Robertson, Mr. Knipe, and Mr. A. Waddington. who played well-known items and led a community chorus.

The Women's Progressive 'Club held a very successful social in the Assembly Hall Y.W.C.A. on Thursday. There was ii large attendance. Solos were given by Mrs. Clark and Mwe Talentine; duets by Miss Walker and Mrs. Collins; vir/lin solos by Mr. Ce Silva; pianoforte solos •**by Mr. Kersland." The annual meeting of the Otahuhu Croquet Club was held recently in the (•lubioom, Maeon Avenue. The report and balance-sheet showed a very successful season. The Mclvor Mallets were won by Mesdamee Morton and Williams, and the A doubles by Mesdames Hickson and Patton. Officers elected for th* ensuing season were as follow: President, Mrs. J. Gillies; vice-presidents, Meedames Morton and Rugg; secretary, Mrs. L. Kimberj treasurer, Mrs. Jas. Todd; match committee, Mesdames H. Moffitt, Elliott and Morton; general committee, Mesdames H. Mofßtt, It. Hickeon, Elliott, E. Piper, E. Patton, J. Ogilvie; delegates to Auckland Aesociation, Mesdames Patton and Kimber. .

Mrs. J. T. Gill, president 'M the Onehunga Croquet Club, entertained a number of the members and friends of the club at a card afternoon on Tuesday. ,The function was held in the pavilion, which was dedorated -with the club colours of heliotrope and cream. During the afternoon bridge and "500" were played, and prizes were won by Mrs. Vella and Mrs. L. Bray. The Gaiety Hall, Surrey Crescent, was gay with autumn flowers and foliage last evening, when a kitchen evening was given to Mi«?s Hazel Lang, daughter of Captain W. J. Lang. The guests were entertained with daubing and vocal items rendered by Mise. Nancy Lang and Mr. Xeville Carlsen. Mins Lang wore a. pink silk inarocnin. Among those ■present were: Mesdames W. J; Lang, C. Moore, D. Finlayeon, D. Wilson, R. Almond, O. Neville Carlsen, Misses Lily Lang, Miriam Cassin, Joyce Wileon, Norma Johnson, Dawn Moore, Joj r Lang, Minal Williamson, Gene and Xancy Lang.

The newly-formed St. Joseph's Social Club, Grey Lynn, held an evening in the Parish Hall recently, when a large gathering of members and friends spent an enjoyable evening. The hall had been tastefully redecorated and renovated, glowing' coloured lights giving a fairy-like appearance. Under the auspices of the Women's Association of the Balmoral Presbyterian Church, a Scottish concert was held in the Carlton Hall, Sandringham on Thursday evening. The Rev. A. Miller presided. A novel feature of the evening was a haggis parade with bagpipe accompaniment. Everyone present received a piece of haggis. The entertainment programme was contributed by MisseS Marion Macßae, Mae Craig, Alice Walker, Nancy and Betty Kerr, Mesdames McDonald and H. King, and Messrs. H. A. Barton, Miller and J. Cameron. During the evening Rev. W. Gilmbur showed illustrated lantern views of Scotland.

The Misses Bews were hostesses at a card evening held at their residence, "Beverley," Huapai, to augment the funds of* St. Chad's, Church of England. The rooms were beautifully decorated with large bronze bowls of mauve and bronze chrysanthemums. Miss Bews rc.ceived the guests wearing a frock of black chenille, assisted by Miss Alice Bews, who wore a frock of navy georgette and lace. A pleasant function took place at the Cambria tennie courte, Devoiiport, on Thursday evening, when Miss I. Ensor was tendered a social. The tennis pavilion was exquisitely decorated with flowers and ferns, while the supper tablo was embellished with vaee* of flowers. Tennis on the lighted courts formed part of the programme. After the supper interval Mr. F. S. Proctor presented Miss Ensor, on behalf of the club, with a beaten brass fruit stand a email token of affection from the members. Miss Ensor briefly returned thanks. Among those present were: Mesdames A. W. D. Meiklejohn, G. Daere, G. Rabe, E. Keeley, F. S. Proctor and the Misses H. Dunning, R. Beere, D. Lethaby, M.
