(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 26. Mr. Avery Brundidge, president of the Amateur Athletic Union, on Thursday notified 20 sports committees of the American Olympic Committee that this country's team in the approaching games 'will have to be cut down because of lack of funds. His action followed a meeting here of the Olympic Finance Committee, at which the treasurer reported that to date only 34,479 dollars had been raised toward the committee's goal of 350,000 dollars. Tho entire sum raised, Mr. Brundidge said, will be used solely to defray the expenses of team members to Los Angeles. All committee members and officials will he compelled to pay their own way. The sports governing bodies were notified of the impossibility of obtaining sufficient funds to ensure full United States participation in the Games, and informed of the grave danger that the American Olympic Committee would be unable to finance all its teams. It had been agreed at the previous meeting of the finance committee that in the event of funds falling short, the more important branches of sport would be given preference to the total exclusion, if necessary, of others. Track and field events were placed at the top of the list.
