POLITICAL CLEAN-UP.
Commissions To Investigate Lang Regime. ALLEGED CORRUPTION. (Received 11 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. It was announced yesterday that four Royal Commissions are to be appointed forthwith to inquire into certain mattero connected with the Lang regime. They will cover the following subjects:—
Whether the recent assault on Mr. J. Garden by Npw Guardsmen was the outcome of a conspiracy.
Whether there was corruption in the granting of licenses for tin-hare meetings.
Whether there was corruption in restoring permits for the use of fruit machines in hotel bans,
Whether the Lang Government was justified in appointing Mr. C. J. Goode as Chief Transport Commissioner in view of the fact that he was discharged from the Railway Department after an investigation of certain charges preferred against him.
A special meeting of the Executive Council granted four weeks" leave of absence on full pay to Mr. Goode. Mr. Hartigan, one of the assistant commissioners, has been appointed to act as Chief Commissioner during Mr. Goode's absence.
