TARIFF AMENDMENT.
Application to Wheat and Meat At Home. DEFEATED IN COMMONS. LONDON, May 24. In the Committee stage on the Finance Bill in the House of Commons Mr. D. R. Grcnfell (Lab., Gower), moved as an amendment that no order of the Tariff Advisory Committee shall apply to wheat and meat. He said nearly £200,000,000 were spent every year on wheat and meat, and these vital commodities of the people should bo admitted free of duty. The amendment was rejected by 282 votes to 50.
