MINING.
MAHAKIPAWA WASH-UP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The wash-up at the Slahakipawa mine (Marlborough) for the week ended to-day was 74 ounces. MOUNT TOKATEA COMPANY. About fifteen pounds of stone from reefs in the Mount Tokatea Mineral and Fertiliser Company's property, Coromandel, were brought to town by directors this week. Some of the stone is of a very good class, being freely peppered with gold visible to the naked eye. The stone Is from a reef and some small leaders. Another piece is highly mineralised refractory ore, containing besides sulphide, gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc and iron. This is from the main lode, which in some places has been proved to be 140 ft in width. It is from this lode it Is proposed to extract sulphuric acid for the purpose of manufacturing fertilisers. It is claimed that after extracting the sulphuric acid the mineral can be segregated by differential notation. The free milling ore was obtained from a quartz reef some L'OOft east of tlie main drive. This reef varies up to 12in in width. Several leaders have also been located, and from one about 2in in width, several pounds of fair grade picked stone have been selected.
