BARGE CAPSIZES.
ADRIFT IN HAURAKI GULF. WARNING TO SHIPPING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. A report from the harbourmaster at Kopu states that a barge capsized when being towed from Miranda to Thames yesterday, and is now adrift in the Hanraki Gulf. The barge was being towed by launch, and when about two miles off the coast in the Firtli of Thames, overturned. No men were on board. There was a strong wind blowing from the north-east, and a fairly heavy swell was running. A light was attached to the barge last night and she also carried an anchor, but this morning the craft had disappeared. The barge is thought to be drifting in the Gulf. The vessel was owned by Messrs. J. T. Julian and Sons, Ltd., of Auckland, and was being towed to the north wharf at Grahamstown. The Superintendent of Marine at Auckland received the following telegram from the harbourmaster at Kopu: "Capsized barge adrift probably eastward of Piako Dead Man line."
