FRENCH CRISIS.
NATIONAL CABINET. Effort to Gain Co-operation of M. Tardieu. MEETING WITH HERRIOT. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) PARIS, May 24. M, Herriot and M. Tardieu, are to, meet this afternoon in the presence of the President, M. Lebrun. Many people are hopeful that the meeting may result in an exchange of views which will make possible the co-opera-tion of M. Tardieu and the-present members of the Cabinet, and even the establishment of a National Government, which is being widely discussed. It is admitted that France is faced with a serious position at home and abroad. On t.u one hand the Socialists are demanding a large reduction in military expenditure. On the other hand, M. Herriot states that he has no intention of risking French security, and the keynote of his policy is to insist upon the rights possessed by France by virtue of existing treaties. The general belief, however, is that France is not yet ready for a National Government, and that she will be represented at the Lausanne Conference by the Radicals, neither the Socialists nor M. Tardieu's Moderates being included.
