GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

BRAN IS CHEAPER. AFRICAN MAIZE ON FRIDAY. POTATOES A LITTLE FIRMER. Accumulation of bran at the local mills has brought about a reduction in pi ice with a view to stimulating consumption. Millers are now quoting £5 per ton, and some dealers are offering it at a s.i.all margin above that figure. In response to this competition importers of Australian bran have dropped their prices 5/, to £5 15/ per ton. Demand, however, is still comparatively dull. Australian pollard is in steady request, with values unchanged, at £6 10/ to £0 15/ per ton. Oats and ChafF. There is no alteration in the market for oats and eliaff. B Gartons are still selling at 4/5 per bushel, and Southern chaff at £7 10/ to £7 15/ per ton. Fowl Wheat. Fowl wheat is steady at 6/6 to 6/8 per bushel. There have been fluctuations in the South, but no important changes Lave taken place during the past few weeks. Java Maize. Java maize, which arrived last week, is being quoted at 6/6 to 0/8 per bushel (plus fumigation charges, if any). A shipment of South African is expected towards the close of this week. The consignment will include a good proportion of crushed grain. This is still selling at 5/0 per sClb, with occasionally higher rates as stocks are almost exhausted. When the new shipment comes to hand the local price will probably be lowered to 5/3. Potatoes. The vessel which arrived last week-end from the South brought only a small consignment of potatoes, with the result that spot stocks are extremely light. However, the demand so far has proved disappointing, as there are still fair quantities of local potatoes finding their way to the auction marts and retail shops. The position in the South is that quotations have been raised 5/ per ton in consequence of business commencing from this centre. Onions. The onion market is particularly firm. Southern merchants, who have an eye to the Sydney market, which has been absorbing larjre quantities of the Canterbury onion surplus, are not keen to quote for shipment to this centre. Values hiive risen to 12/6 per cwt, with an additional 6d for the limited local supplies that -re offering. Wholesale Current Prices. (Through store.) Pollard and Bran.—Mill prices: Pollard. £6 per ton; bran, £5 per ton. Merchants' prices: Australian pollard, £0 lo to £6 15/ per ton; bran, £5 15/. Oats—Feed: B Gartons, 4/5 per bushel, A Gartons 4/8, clipped Duns 5/, clipped Algerians, Australian, 5/, New Zealand, 5/9; clipped Gartor.s, 4/9. Fowl Wheat.—6/4 to 6/5 per bushel I Maize.—Java, 6/6 to 6/8 (plus fumigajtion charges); crushed, 5 6 per bushel Parley.— Feed: Clipped, 4 6 per bushel. Seed: Cape, 6/ per bushel. Maize Meal. —11/ per 1001b.

Barley Meal—9/ per 1001b. Chaff— G.b.0.5., £8 10/ per ton, Blenheim or Canterbury. Potatoes.—Table, Southern, £7 10/ to £7 15/ per ton. Onions. —Local, 13/ per cwt; Canterbury, 12/6.
