WORSE THAN EVER.
POOR SALE FOR HIDES. NO EXPORT OUTLET. SHEEPSKINS ALSO LOWER. Values at to-day's fortnightly sale of hides and sheepskins held by combined Auckland brokers, will surely prove to have touched rock bottom, for they were at a level that hag not been reached within the memory of modern stockmen. Heavy hides, which a few years ago would have •brought up to 1/ per lb, were sold as low as 2d to 2%d per lb. There was no competition 'from export buyers, and values were %d a lb lower than a fortnight ago. The market for sheepskins was likewise 'dull to-day, this also being in accord with outside conditions, where wool and pelts are ruling at unusually low levels. Dry skins were %d a tt> lower as compared with last sale, and salted were from 3d to 6d each lower, except for best quality, which were 3d down. The range of prices to-day was:— Sheepskins.—Dry: Fine crossbred, 2%d per lb; coarse crossbred, l%d; medium crossbred, 2d; half to three-quarter wool, 2d; short to half wool, l%d; quarter wool, l%d; lambs, 2V4d; pelts, Id. Salted: Best, to 1/4 each; good, 1/; medium, 9d. Hides.—Extra heavy ox, to 2%d per lb; heavy, 2%d; medium, 2d; light, I%'d; extra heavy cow, 2d; heavy, 2d; medium, 2d; light, 2d; yearlings, 3%d; best calf, 4%d; good, 3%d; inferior and damaged, Id. Tallow.—Best mixed, 15/ per cwt medium, 12/6; poor, 10/.
