BIRDS' PROTEST MEETING.
BUDGETITES SEARCH FOR GATE CRASHERS.
POPULAR PUZZLE ARRANGED FOR TO-DAY. Dear Boys and Girls, — Several hundred readers of the Young Folk's Budget set out to help the birds of the forest by discovering and pointing out the gate crashers present at the meeting of protest, but 1 am afraid that many were not as helpful as they wanted to be. These can only be described as panic makers, for they endeavoured to show that there were upward of fifty weasels present and more than a dozen hawks. As a matter of fact there were only twenty-four gate crashers all told—fifteen weasels and nine hawks. However, with the Budget readers as scouts, the birds were perfectly safe, for SS competitors succeed in discovering the correct number of intruders. From these entries the prize and certificate winners were selected, neatness being the deciding factor in each case. The first prize went to C. E. Thatcher, the second to Effie Donaldson, the third to Noeleen Bell, and the fourth to Edna Basley. On the whole the work was well done and the results were most satisfactory. AH readers will hail with delight the "B's" in the picture puzzle that has been arranged for to-day. In the scene shown elsewhere on this page are many objects that begin with &fl the letter "B," and it is the task of competitors to find as many of these In A. as possible. For full particulars see the announcement which appears below. **^\^^°^
