CARLAW PARK EVENTS.
The sports carnival at Carlaw Park in aid of the Auckland City Mission was highly successful from the point of view of the programme, but the attendance was ■woefully poor, amounting to only a few hundred. There were many spectacular events, including wood-chopping. which attracted some of the Dominion's best axemen. whippet racing, football matches, relay races, and a haka by a troup of Maoris from Mangere and Onehunga. The Girls' Band was in attendance, and its playing was greatly appreciated. Results :— Standing Chop (12in log).—First heat: D. Hoey (scr), 1; D. Silva (3s), 2; J. Larkin (scr), 3. Time, 365. Second heat: T. Silva ancf W. .T. Costella (both scr). dead-heat, 1; J. Richardson (3s), 3; P. Hoey (12s), 4. Time, 345. Final: D. Hoey 1, Richardson 2, D. Silra 3. Time, 38s.
