CHARITY SPORTS.

CARLAW PARK ATTRACTION. A programme of wood-chopping, whippet racing, Maori hakas and dances, and novelty competitions, will be provided a*t Carlaw Park on Saturday afternoon by the Rev. Jasper Calder's charity sports carnival committee. A number of prominent axemen of the province have entered for the wood-chopping events, whippets have been secured for flat and hurdle dog races, the Auckland Rugby League executive has arranged for two short exhibition League football matches, and a large number of entries have been received for tug-o'-war and relay race competitions. Provision has been made for Maori hakas and dances, and for an exhibition by an "escape artist." who appears under the titleof the New Zealand Houdini. The carnival has been arranged in aid of the Auckland City Mission. During the afternoon selections will be played by the Auckland Girls' Band.
