FANCY DRESS BANDITS.
ROBBERS AT A BALL. Robbers in fancy dress were chased through the streets o£ Villstadt, near Hamburg, Germany, by a motley throng of cowboys, geishas, eighteenth century courtiers, Dresden shepherdesses, green gods and 'goddesses, sailors and all the other revellers at a fancy dress h- 3 -"- Nobody had suspected that the three apaches with black masks, who came together at the ball, had not come for amusement, and when they suddenly ordered the man at the box-office to hand over the cash he thought they were merely acting their part. , . Even when they whipped out revolvers, it never occurred to him that they meant business, and he joked with them till one of them fired and a bullet grazed his head. One of the three then grabbed the money —about £25—and rushed with the other two into the street. The noisa of firing was heard in the ballroom, where for' the moment there was confusion. Then the dancers rushed off in pursuit. The robbers were well ahead, and more than once turned and fired at their pursuers, but, fortunately, only succeeded in wounding one person slightly. _ One of the robbers then tripped, and that was his undoing. He was_ captured and dragged to the police station. He revealed the names of his accomplices, and all three were soon under lock and key.
