SPRINGHEAD DAIRY CO.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREf, this day. An extraordinary general meeting of shareholders of the Springhead Dairy Co. was held at the factory yesterday afternoon, and was very fully attended, practically the whole of the suppliers being present. Mr. N. Phillips, chairman, explained that the meeting had .been called at a request of some of the suppliers with a view to testing the feeling on the question of the advisability of amalgamating with the Maungatapere Dairy Company, and he called upon some shareholders to come forward with a proposition. Mr. Mannington then moved that the Springhead Dairy Company merge with the Maungatapere Dairy Company upon terms which he outlined in detail. Mr. K. M. Stevens, in seconding, pro forma, said he was one of those who had been instrumental in calling the meeting, as he wished shareholders to have an opportunity of giving their opinion on thc question of amalgamation. A number of other shareholders spoke, and it was evident at an early stage that the meeting was antagonistic. On the motion being put by the chairman. it was turned down by an overwhelming majority, only the mover and seconder voting for it. Mr. Mannington then moved that the question of amalgamation with the Maungatapere Dairy Company be definitely abandoned, and this was carried unanimously.
