LONDON'S BIG STORES.
PAST YEAR'S RESULTS. Results oE the activities of several of London's huge departmental stores recently appeared in an English financial journal. Amongst those reviewed were the following:— Harrods, the well-known retail distributors, showed n net profit of £007,009 for the year ended January 31, as against £752.482 for the preceding year. The total distribution for the year on ordinary shares was Wh. per cent, less tax, or vk per cent less than for the preceding twelve months.
Selfridge's Oxford Street stores earned a profit of £K)0,269, as against £431,007 for the previous year, ordinary dividend being 10 per cent.
The Lewis Co. (with departmental stores in Liverpool, Manchester, and Birmingham) showed a profit of £800,800, as compared with £866,165 for the preceding twelve months. Dividend was at the same rate as for the previous year, viz., 15 per cent.
