AUSTRALIAN WOOL EXPORT.
BIG INCREASE TO JAPAN. LESS FOR THE CONTINENT. The figures of actual export of wool from the Commonwealth for the first eight months of the statistical year, i.e., from July 1, 1931, to February 29, 1932, show a great increase in the shipments to Japan, and a corresponding decrease in those to the Continent.
The total quantity exported to date is 1,909,573 bales, as against 1,932,802 for the corresponding period last year. Shipments to China have been only 100 bales in the present season, and'they were only thirteen bales last season. Shipments to Japan totalled 439,904 bales, as compared with 278,398 bales the previous 12 months. The United Kingdom took 700,277 bales, against 674,545 the preceding year. The purchase for Italy totalled 152,708 bales, as against 176,179 bales.
