MEXICAN "RAFFLES."
NO PRISON CAN HOLD HIM. MEXICO CITY, March 24. Robert Alexander, Mexico's "Raffles," who is accused of more than 100 robberies, escaped from the noted Carcel de Belem, an ancient, grim stone prison in the heart of the capital. Alexander was captured two months ago, but on the pretext that he would restore valuable stolen gems he induced his captors to take him to hie home in an exclusive section of the city. He invited the policemen to precede him into a room, slammed the door and locked it behind them and calmly left. Recaptured a few days later, he was put in the Carcel de Belem, whence it was thought he could not escape.
The details of his feat have not been revealed, but it is known that Alexander is remarkably skilful in the art of disguise and is particularly clever in impersonating women.
