"BOOTLEG" CONFERENCE.

REGULATING THE "INDUSTRY."

HALIFAX (Nova Scotia), March 24.

Leaders of the liquor ring "operating at Atlantic Coast ports" and along the Canadian-American border, held a meeting here for two days. It has been called the "American Bootleggers Conference" and was held at a leading hotel in the city. Nearly a dozen leaders from New York, New England and Detroit were present, and plans for the coming season's traffic were discussed.

One of the chief aims of the conference was to obtain lower prices on liquor. It was stated that some concessions have been made on lower grades of hard liqilor and wines, but that on the best quality of imported wines, whisky and brandy no change has been made in prices of stocks held at St. Pierre. It was reported that plenty of ships are available at Nova Scotia ports for charter or for sale and that charter rates have been considerably reduced. Several from New York attended the meetings. Reports that Vannie Higgins was present could not be verified.

It is stated that the "Bum King" spends £0000 monthly in obtaining cooperation in Nova Scotia.
